CEBU — The Sharks of Cebu had just won their second game in the MPBL Datu Cup, but their first home win could serve as motivation in rallying the entire province to throw its full support on its MPBL squad.

Led by Patrick Cabahug, Cebu outlasted the Makati Skyscrapers, 70-66, at the USJR-Basak Gymnasium here.

Although it was only the second win in 10 games for the Sharks, it served as a big morale booster not just only for the squad but also for the fans who savored the moment.

At a time when  a win is hard to come by for its home team, the victory could become a rallying point for the Cebuanos to continue support their  latest team playing in the regional amateur basketball competition.

“Pride lang talaga. Pinapakita namin kung paano yung basketball sa Cebu. Sobrang fanatic ng mga tao dito. Baka magsawa ng suporta yung tao kung hindi naging maganda resulta. Mas buhos yung suporta nito,” said Cabahug, who knocked in 22 markers.

“Para sa mga teammates ko, yung kumpiyansa nila mas lalong aangat.”

Cesar Catli, one among the few ex-pros playing for the Sharks, felt the team was re-energized playing at home.

“Ito yung pride namin. Kailangan namin yung home game kasi kailangan naming ma-recharge as a team. Yung distance kasi, alam mo yung lungkot. Being away with their families, we felt we were recharged as a team when we played here,” added Catli.

Wiht a 2-8 record, Cebu will get a first crack of adding a player coming from the free agency. Starting next week, the team could add a marquee player to bolster its campaign moving forward.
