9 p.m. — Zamboanga vs Manila

MEMBERS of the Zamboanga Valientes had a roller coaster ride in the ongoing MPBL Datu Cup, but the team from the Mindanao region is bracing for a more energized game at home Saturday against the powerhouse Manila Stars.

The Valientes, backed by Family’s Brand Sardines, are excited with their new acquisition, RR De Leon, former player of the University of the East, who hails from Zamboanga.

“De Leon is from Quinipot, Zamboanga City. Pangarap nya talaga makalaro sa harap ng mga kababayan niya,” said team manager Alvin Munio.

The Valientes are carrying a 5-5 win-loss card and will be facing a dangerous Manila Stars squad, one of the leaders in the fastest growing regional amateur basketball league in the country put up by Senator Manny Pacquiao with PBA legend and former MVP Kenneth Duremdes serving as commissioner.

The two teams will collide at 9 p.m. right after the game between the Marikina Shoemasters and the Cebu Sharks at 7 p.m.

Manila is currently at third place with a 9-2 win-loss record and a win will put the Stars tied at second with idle San Juan Knights.

On Friday, delegation from Marikina, Manila, and Cebu received a warm welcome from the host team.
