MYKEE Cabahug and Jomari Sollano delivered key baskets in the endgame to help Imus Bandera-GLC Truck and Equipment to a tense 67-65 win over the Laguna Heroes-Krah in the MPBL Datu Cup at the Ynares Sports Center in Pasig Thursday night.
Cabahug knotted the game at 65-all with a lay up off a James Castro steal in the last 31 seconds. Castro then completed his big play with an assist to Cabahug for the equalizer.
In the next play, Raymond Ilagan had a chance to put the Heroes back on the driver’s seat, but his jumper failed to hit the mark. During the rebound battle, Sollano was fouled by Michael Mabulac, sending the Bandera power forward to the free throw line.
Sollano made both charities, but the Heroes still had a chance to send the game to overtime or win the game with a three-point basket.
With two more fouls to give, Imus wisely used it to its advantage and the only time Laguna was able to get off a shot was in the final second when Paolo Pontejos let loose a triple that misfired to allow the Bandera to snatch the win.
Imus, which lost three straight games prior to Thursday night’s game, improved its win-loss record to 6-6. Laguna dropped to a 7-7 slate.
