DAVAO Occidental continued its solid showing in the MPBL Datu Cup as they extended their winning streak to eight following their latest win over the Navotas Clutch, 72-59, on Saturday at the Filoil Flying V Arena.
The Tigers unveiled their solid defensive game plan to pick up their 10th win in 13 games and kept their hold of the second spot in the southern division of this tournament put up by Senator Manny Pacquiao with PBA legend and former MVP Kenneth Duremdes serving as its commissioner.
Defense spelled the difference in Davao Occidental’s win as the Cocolife-backed Tigers held their rivals to just 35 percent field goal shooting. The Tigers also outrebounded the Clutch, 49-36, and got more points inside the paint, 42-24.
Navotas fell to a 5-8 card in a tie with Pasay in seventh to eighth places.
Meanwhile, San Juan got back on the winning track after a 71-62 victory over Cebu in the other game.
The Knights took advantage of the Sharks’ error-prone third quarter to finally pull away for good and notch its 11th win in 14 games.
San Juan’s win also snapped Cebu’s four-game winning streak as the Casino Ethyl Alcohol-backed Sharks absorbed their ninth loss in 14 games.
