THERE’S a new Wonder Boy in the MPBL Datu Cup, and his name is Chris Bitoon.
Bitoon proved to be the scourge for the Quezon City Capitals-Black Mamba as he destroyed every defense thrown at him and powered the Manila Stars-Robust Energy Capsule to a 76-71 win Wednesday night at the JCSGO Gym in Quezon City.
The 5-foot-9 guard from St. Clare College played a career game, tallying a personal best in points and rebounds.
Bitoon scored 26 points and grabbed 11 rebounds as he imposed his will against the Capitals, who found no match in stopping the spitfire guard.
The cool and calculated guard also dished seven assists for the Stars, who notched their 12th win in 14 games to stay in solo second spot in the tough northern division of this tournament put up by Senator Manny Pacquiao with PBA legend and former MVP Kenneth Duremdes serving as commissioner.
“Naglalaro lang talaga ako. Hndi ko na iniisip yung klase ng depensa na ibinibigay sa akin. Malaki kasi ang tiwala sa akin ng coaching staff kaya sinusuklian ko lang,” Bitoon told FOX PH.
Like Bitoon, ex-pro Riel Cervantes also played a career game as the 6-foot-4 forward contributed 25 points.
Bitoon, Cervantes and Kyles Lao, who chipped in 13 markers, conspired in a big run by Manila, which fought its way back from a 16-point deficit, 49-33.
Quezon City dropped to a 3-8 win-loss card and will need to win as many games as it can to at least get the No. 8 spot in the northern division and qualify for a playoff spot.
