ANDOY Estrella became the first MPBL player to register a second triple-double performance as his overall showing sparked the Quezon City Capitals to their first back-to-back victories in the Datu Cup Saturday night at the San Andres Gym.
The cool and calculating guard tallied 19 points, 10 rebounds and 12 assists while powering the Black Mamba Energy Drink-backed Capitals to a 109-81 demolition of Zamboanga Valientes-Family’s Brand Sardines.
Estrella was the first player in MPBL history to record a triple-double last season before a knee injury slowed him down and affected Quezon City’s campaign right there and then.
His impressive showing on Saturday was an indication that he’s back in peak form.
Like Estrella, Jay Collado is also rediscovering his old, deadly touch as he finished with a double-double performance of 21 points and 13 rebounds for the Capitals.
PJ Barua and Hesed Gabo also ended up in double figures with 12 and 11, respectively.
By winning two in a row, the Capitals improved their win-loss record to 5-8. The team is also coming off a win against the tough Muntinlupa Cagers and that victory somehow served as a motivation of how far the team could go.
The loss was the 10th in 16 games for the Family’s Brand Sardines-supported Valientes, who were completely outplayed by the Capitals.
