THINGS are beginning to look different for the Navotas Clutch since making a coaching change as the team just won back-to-back games, capped by an 83-73 win over the Cebu Sharks Saturday in the MPBL Datu Cup at the San Andres Sports Complex.
Head coach Gabby Severino, an assistant of Ritchie Ticzon, has led the team to yet another win after taking over, increasing the Clutch’s chances of reaching the playoff round.
With the latest win, Navotas now improved to 7-9 and moved up to No. 7 spot in the tough northern division of this tournament put up by Senator Manny Pacquiao with PBA legend and former MVP Kenneth Duremdes serving as commissioner.
Marlon Gomez, plucked by the Clutch from the Pampanga Lanterns-ADG Construction in a trade with Levi Hernandez, led the way with 20 points.
He had a steady game, hitting 8-of-13 from the field, while also pulling down six boards and patrolling the shaded lane for a Clutch team that is still missing the services of injured big man Rey Publico.
Jai Reyes had a double-double performance, scoring 13 and dishing out 10 assists. Gino Jumao-as contributed 12.
The loss was the second in a row for the Sharks, who played without injured gunner Patrick Cabahug. The team slipped to a 6-11 card and stayed at the 10th position in the southern division.
