Davao Occi Tigers stay ferocious in MPBL, waylay SJ Knights

Denver’s Murray hails Jokic partnership after NBA play-off win

DAVAO — Not even a long lull nor the powerhouse San Juan Knights can stop the rampaging Davao Occidental Tigers.

Playing in their third home game, the Cocolife-backed Tigers did not disappoint their local folks who trooped to the Rizal Memorial College Gymnasium here late Wednesday morning.

The Tigers capped their big run by winning their last game of the year and kept the streak going in the MPBL Datu Cup. Davao Occidental’s winning run has been extended to 13 straight games.

Davao Occidental improved its win-loss record to 15-3 and fortified its hold of the top spot in the southern division of this tournament put up by Senator Manny Pacquiao with PBA legend and former MVP  Kenneth Duremdes serving as commissioner.

San Juan absorbed its fourth loss in 19 games and dropped into third place of the tough northern division behind Bataan (14-2) and Manila (14-3).

“We’re not thinking of the 13-0. We’re just concerned about beating San Juan, which to me is the toughest team in the tournament. They’re well-coached,” said Davao Occidental coach Don Dulay.

Five players ended up in double figures for Davao Occidental led by Eman Calo.

Left undrafted in the recent PBA Rookie Draft, Calo had a breakout performance, ending up with 23 points on a steady 7-of-9 shooting from the field.

Ex-pro Bogs Raymundo added 18, Mark Yee had 12, and Leo Najorda and Billy Robles chipped in 10 apiece for the Tigers.
