Duremdes, Ross reunited as PBA stars visit MPBL games in Valenzuela

KENNETH Duremdes and Chris Ross used to work together under one team in the Philippine Basketball Association.

Then head coach of Coca-Cola in the PBA, Duremdes drafted Ross in 2009 as the third overall pick before the latter wrote his story from being a mere journeyman to becoming a star playing for the San Miguel Beermen, where he ended up winning six championships and won Finals MVP twice.

“I drafted him when I was coaching Coca-Cola in 2009,” said Duremdes, now commissioner of the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League. “It’s good to see him in one of the games here.”

The past and present basketball stars hugged at center court and Ross couldn’t help but be amazed with the atmosphere inside the Valenzuela Astrodome where they watched the game between the Valenzuela Classic and the Muntinlupa Cagers-Angelis Resort.

“It’s amazing. The atmosphere is great,” Ross told FOX Sports Philippines.

According to Ross, he has relatives living here in Valenzuela. The many-time All-Defensive team member and two-time Defensive Player of the Year was joined by former teammate Rashawn McCarthy of Kia.

Like Ross, McCarthy was impressed by the solid support of the local folks here.

“You can feel the energy here in the building. You had a great atmosphere here in the MPBL and that makes the games more exciting,” added McCarthy.
