San Juan slams QC, Caloocan rips Laguna

Shaquille O’Neal goes wild in mosh pit at Tomorrowland

San Juan pounced on a decimated Quezon City squad and hammered out a 68-50 win late Monday night in the MPBL Datu Cup at the Filoil Flying V Arena.

The Knights took advantage of the absence of Hesed Gabo, Andoy Estrella, and Jeff Morillo. The Capitals also utilized top frontliner Jay Collado sparingly.

Without the usual production of these four key players, the Black Mamba-supported Capitals had a lousy output. Their free throw shooting was an eye sore as they hit only 24-percent from the line, hitting only 8-of-33 shots.

Ex-Ginebra player John Wilson finished with 13 points and was the only San Juan player ending up in double figures.

With the win, San Juan improved its win-loss record to 18-5 for fourth spot in the northern division of this tournament put up by Senator Manny Pacquiao  with PBA legend and former MVP Kenneth Duremdes serving as commissioner.

Quezon City absorbed its 11th loss in 21 games,  but remained in sixth spot of the northern division of this event also supported by LGR, the official outfitter of the MPBL.

Earlier, Caloocan outplayed Laguna, 76-62, to keep its hopes alive for a playoff berth.

By winning over the Heroes, the Supremos notched their 10th win in 24 games and stayed at No. 9 spot. With only one game left, they need to wrap up their elimination round campaign with a win and hope that Quezon City, Navotas, and Pampanga won’t exceed 10 wins.
