PBA legend and current Bataan Risers coach Jojo Lastimosa and Don Dulay of the Davao Occidental Tigers will be calling the shots for the North and South MPBL All-Stars set to happen less than a month from now.
The two coaches steered their respective teams to the No.1 spot in the north and south division of the ongoing MPBL Datu Cup.
With still three games left on their schedule, the Risers are already assured of the no.1 spot with a 20-2 win-loss record.
A first time head coach in mainstream regional commercial league, Lastimosa, a many-time PBA All-Star, will be waiting on who among coaches Philip Cezar of Manila, Cholo Villanueva of Makati and Randy Alcantara of San Juan will join him in the coaching staff of the Northern All-Stars of this event also supported by LGR, the official outfitter of the MPBL.
Dulay, who played briefly for Rain or Shine in the PBA, had also carried the Tigers to the top spot of the southern division.
With an 18-4 slate and only three games left on their schedule, Dulay’s squad is already assured of the No.1 spot in the playoffs and home court advantage in each of the phases from the quarterfinal round all the way to the finals — if ever they reach that far.
Other candidates to assist Dulay in the southern division coaching staff include Jack Azcueta of Muntinlupa, Ramon Pido of General Santos City, Mac Tan of the Batangas City Athletics.
As soon as the league wraps up the voting procedures for fans, who will select the starting fives of both squads, Lastimosa and Dulay will select the eight other players who will comprise their 13-man line up in this event put up by Senator Manny Pacquiao with PBA legend and former MVP Kenneth Duremdes serving as commissioner.
