Vice Mayor Alonte vows for more competitive Laguna in MPBL next season: ‘Kailangang magpalakas’

Toronto Raptors superstar Kawhi Leonard nails nine 3’s in a row!

BINAN, LAGUNA — Vice Mayor Gel Alonte, one of the partners in putting up the Laguna Heroes-Krah, vowed to come up with a more competitive team for next season’s MPBL wars.

“Kailangan naming magpalakas,” Alonte told FOX PH. “Other teams are beefing up their line ups for the season, so we don’t want to be left behind.”

The Heroes nearly made it to the playoffs of the southern division, but ended up with a 10-15 record for ninth place.

Alonte wants to play a more active role in forming up the team this coming season.

“I want to have a hand in forming up the team. Guys like Denok Miranda, Michael Mabulac, Raymond Ilagan, they’re my players,” said Alonte. “We need to have a more competitive roster this coming season.”

Mabulac, who used to guard June Mar Fajardo at practice while he was still playing for the San Miguel Beermen the past few years, had a solid season playing for the Heroes.

In fact, he was one among the top five players vying for the MVP race this season, but will have to be cut from the derby as his team is already eliminated.
