New Albay Volcanoes logo unveiled: ‘Dapat mainit rin yung performance namin sa MPBL’

HOT as lava.

That’s how the Albay Volcanoes and the rest of the Bicolanos expect the newest MPBL expansion squad’s performance in the coming season of the fastest growing regional amateur basketball league.

From the logo itself, creator Jobel Gojit from Bulan, Sorsogon, best described the image as something that will represent the Volcanoes’ hot flowing performance.

“Since Volcanoes ang moniker ng team, wala dapat iinit pa sa lava ng Albay Volcanoes. Dahil mula MBA at Liga Pilipinas, wala ni isang Bicol or Albay team na nabuo. Sigurado, mainit sa lava ang pagtanggap ng Albayanon sa aming team,” wrote team manager Nomar Isla in an exclusive online interview with FOX Sports Philippines.

Head coach Monel Kallos expects his team to be as feisty as the Mayon Volcano every MPBL game, nothing less.

“Dapat mainit rin yung performance namin sa MPBL,” added Kallos. “Even yung mga Bicolanos, mainit rin talaga yung pagtanggap.”

“Sobra na kami mainit sa Bicol. Yung page namin, one week pa lang more than 5000 followers namin.”

The Volcanoes are likely to build their team around ex-PBA players Alex Nuyles and Jonathan Aldave, but Kallos had also identified several homegrown talents to shore up their line up.

One among the homegrown talents Kallos had identified is his son, Justin Alfonso, who is currently based in the United States and played college ball in Orange County College.

“He is a point guard who played in the US. Pauuwiin ko siya para maglaro dito,” added Kallos.

Other homegrown talents were spotted when they conducted their tryouts within the province.

“May nakuha kami from Malinao, Albay, si Leo Blanca and from Legazpi City si Dan Monsalve. From Bacacay, Albay, nakuha namin si Joshua Villar. We are planning to get Joseph Brutas from Tabaco, Albay who is playing in the PBA D-League for Diliman College,” wrote Kallos.

Not only is Kallos opening its doors to the homegrown players, but he also welcomed the inclusion of Genesius Gesulga Molto Jr from the University of Santo Tomas-Aquinas in Legazpi City, as part of his coaching staff.
