Two large home courts will be utilized by the Albay Volcanoes to be their training grounds as they seek to form a cohesive team for the MPBL next season.
The Albay Volcanoes will use both the Ibalong Centrum for Recreation and Albay Astrodome in Legazpi as they vie for a spot in the expansion teams joining the MPBL.
These two venues have been used by the PBA in the past whenever the league goes on an out-of-town game in the province of Albay.
Head coach Monel Kallos confirmed this development to FOX Sports Philippines in an exclusive online interview after getting full support from no less than Provincial Governor Al Francis Bichara.
“We were asked by Governor Bichara kung ano maitutulong niya sa amin, ang sabi namin kapag home games namin, yung visiting teams, sagot namin yung accommodation,” wrote Kallos in an online interview.
The Ibalong Centrum For Recreation in Legazpi City was made possible when the management and coaching staff of the Volcanoes paid a courtesy visit to Mayor Noel Rosal and Councilor Vince Baltazar to get their commitment to support the team.
“Mayor Rosal and Councilor Baltazar also supported our team Albay and allowed us to use Ibalong as our home court,” added Kallos. “Then, si Governor Bichara naman for Albay Astrodome. All out ang support ng Bicol.”
Also pledging support to the Volcanoes, the first team from Bicol competing in the country’s major basketball event, are Guinobatan Mayor Gemma Ongjoco and board member Rey Bragais.
The Volcanoes are currently in the midst of forming up their team for the coming MPBL season and so far, ex-pros Alex Nuyles and Jonathan Aldave had been tapped by Kallos to beef up the line up.
Albay had also taken in Rafa Mondragon, who previously played from Basilan. He is a native of Daraga, Albay.
Next week, the team will have another busy session, conducting practices on the following dates — April 12 and 13 at the Albay Astrodome from 5 to 8 p.m.
