Dennice Villamor has been fortunate enough to win championships while playing for different teams.
He was part of the Barangay Ginebra Gin Kings squad that won the 2016 PBA Governors Cup. Last year, he was also fortunate enough to be included in the Batangas City Athletics’ championship run.
But while he cherished the moment of being part of these champion squads, there was some sort of emptiness in Villamor.
“I was happy to be part of these champion teams, pero hindi kasi ako masyadong nakatulong sa kanila,” Villamor told FOX PH. “Sa Ginebra, role player lang talaga, although dream come true na mapasama sa most popular team and manalo ng championship.”
“Last year naman sa Batangas, naging part rin ako ng champion team, kaso injured ako noon, so somehow parang hindi rin ako nakatulong.”
This season, a healthier, better version of Villamor emerged, as he played the stretch-four position for the inaugural staging champions. He proved to be a key figure in the team’s ambitious back-to-back championship bid.
“Mas ramdam ko yung value ko ngayon kasi talagang nakakatulong ako,” he added.
In his team’s latest win over the Davao Occidental Tigers, Villamor knocked in 15 points, including a steady 3-of-4 shooting from beyond the arc as Batangas City pulled off a thrilling 76-74 win over Davao Occidental and set up a winner-take-all showdown.
Villamor is hoping to come up with more productive games and help carry the Athletics to a return stint to the national championship.
