After playing for only one game for the Mandaluyong El Tigre — a match that was eventually forfeited — ex-PBA cager Ronjay Buenafe will finally get a chance to suit up at least for a year with expansion team Albay Volcanoes.
Buenafe, who was at the center of controversy when he was fielded in by Mandaluyong in its game against Quezon City in the elimination round of the MPBL Datu Cup, has officially joined the Volcanoes for next season’s cage wars.
Head coach Monel Kallos of Albay confirmed the news to FOX PH in an online interview.
“Championship team ang bini-build namin kaya we signed up Ronjay,” wrote Kallos. “Initially, one year yung pinirmahan niya, pero may mga clauses pa sa contract kaming idi-discuss sa team owner naming si Gil Orense.”
Buenafe will join a starting team that also has ex-pros Alex Nuyles and Jonathan Aldave, players who will serve as the cornerstones of this first basketball team put up in the province of Bicol.
