Head coach Jerson Cabiltes shared to FOX PH the team’s plans of giving opportunities to their home grown aspirants who are looking to be given a chance to play in the MPBL, the fastest growing regional amateur basketball league put up by Senator Manny Pacquiao with PBA legend and former MVP Kenneth Duremdes serving as commissioner.
The Steel will conduct an open tryout at the Zamboanga City Coliseum on April 23, 9 a.m. Basilan will move to Lamitan for a tryout for potential homegrown players to be held at the FCI Gym at 9 a.m. the next day.
Basilan, headed by Regional Governor Mujiv Hataman, Vice Mayor Julz Hataman, team owner Hegem Furigay, general manager Jax Chua, and executive director Matthew David is determined to put up a championship caliber.
The team had already started beefing up its line up to join holdovers Dennis Daa, Chris Dumapig and Jhaps Bautista by signing up ex-pros Jonathan Uyloan and Anthony Bringas, as well as acquiring the services of former Quezon City Capitals’ premier point guard Hesed Gabo.
