THE Bataan Risers will be staying on and participate in the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League, but likely with a new coach at the helm.
“I spoke to Com (Kenneth Duremdes) already. Yes, tuloy kami,” said Borgie Hermida, team owner of the Risers.
Speculations that Bataan’s MPBL team will be taking a leave of absence grew when Bai Shipping, the owner of the franchise, wrote to the Commissioner’s Office, expressing its intentions to take a leave in the coming season.
But while Hermida confirmed that they would continue participation, they are likely to go on without head coach Jojo Lastimosa.
Lastimosa confirmed to FOX PH that he is now “a free agent.”
Under Lastimosa, Bataan was able to improve by leaps and bounds from its eighth place finish last season to ending up with the best record in the elimination round of the MPBL Datu Cup.
The Risers made it all the way to the semifinal round of the northern division and went a game away from winning the division championship.
