There is no way Batangas City is letting go of Jeff Viernes.
Team manager Gerry Tee confirmed to FOX PH that the team was able to retain his services amidst persistent wooing from different teams.
“He is a spectacular player, one that we cannot afford to pass up,” said Tee. “Kaya ginawa talaga namin ang lahat para mag-stay siya dito sa team.”
Several teams were able to express their intentions to get the spitfire guard who has become one of the biggest reasons for the Athletics’ return to the championship round of the southern division tournament before bowing to Davao Occidental.
If Viernes chose to stay, one of the key players of the Tanduay-backed Athletics, Val Acuña, made known of his intention to transfer to another squad.
Acuña has an existing contract with Batangas City and Tee said they will wait for the opening of the trading period before making a transaction for the inaugural season MVP.
Last week, Acuña has been talking to Zamboanga regarding possibilities of transfering to the Family’s Brand Sardines-owned franchise.
“Mukhang gusto niya na talagang lumipat eh,” said Tee, who added that Acuña has a live contract with the squad until 2020.
