NBA Draft 2019: Kyle Guy all in, won’t return to Virginia

Toronto Raptors superstar Kawhi Leonard nails nine 3’s in a row!

Kyle Guy is all in when it comes to going to the NBA next season.

The Virginia standout has elected to keep his name in the draft process, meaning he won’t be returning to the Cavaliers for his senior season.

“Saying goodbye twice is not easy.. Charlottesville, I just want to say thank you so much. I’ll never forget this. One day I will have the words. I am officially keeping my name in the draft. I know it’s the right step after much prayer and thought with my family,” Guy tweeted Tuesday (Wednesday in Manila).

Guy announced he was entering the draft last week, but left the door open for a possible return to Virginia should the draft process not shake out in his favor. However, his decision to keep his name in means he will forgo his senior season.

Guy was an instrumental part in the Cavaliers’ NCAA Tournament run, which saw them win their first national title. He was named Most Outstanding Player of this year’s tournament after leading the Cavaliers in their Final Four game against Auburn, which saw him sink three free throws with less than a second left to secure the team’s win.

The 6-foot-2 guard also scored 25 points in the regional final against Purdue and 24 in the title game against Texas Tech.

“Kyle had a remarkable three-year career at the University of Virginia,” coach Tony Bennett said in a statement. “He has been a model teammate and student-athlete, and we obviously respect his decision to remain in the draft. I loved coaching him, watching him develop and turn into a terrific young man. We’re excited for Kyle and his family, and wish him nothing but the best at the next level.”

Guy is one of four Virginia players who entered their name in the draft. Ty Jerome, De’Andre Hunter and Mamadi Diakite also have entered their names into the process.

The NBA Draft will be held June 20 at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn.
