Kemba Walker: Best Moments From His Career Night

‘My kids fave player Kleber’ – Nowitzki after passing Chamberlain for 6th all-time scorer

Kemba Walker is now the Charlotte Hornets’ all-time leading scorer. Let that sink in for a moment.

Sure enough, Walker received plenty of criticisms in his seven years in the NBA, with the only franchise he knew. Some said he was too small for the league while others pointed that he doesn’t have the tools to be an elite point guard. Many even claimed he’s “overpaid” when the Hornets signed him to a $48 million contract extension in 2014.

However, Walker proved them wrong and silenced his critics for good on Thursday (Manila Time) when he passed Dell Curry for the franchise’s scoring record.

It was a moment of validation for the 27-year-old guard. And today, we relieve the best moments from the historic night that put him in Charlotte’s basketball lore forever.

New King of Buzz City

With just 20 seconds left on the clock in their match against the Cleveland Cavaliers, Walker drove to the basket and converted a reverse lay-up. That shot put him ahead of Dell Curry in Charlotte’s all-time scoring list with 9,841 points.

What followed was a jubilant home crowd that gave the All-Star guard a standing ovation. Making things more memorable, the crowd actually waited for Walker to reach the feat despite the fact that the game was already decided with the Cavs holding a double-digit lead.

#Respect begets respect

After the game, Walker shared a moment with LeBron James. The King said a few words to the 6-foot-1 scoring guard and gave him a hug before the rest of the Cavaliers congratulated Walker.

LeBron, who also made history in the game by tying Hornets owner Michael Jordan for the most consecutive games with 10-plus points, then praised Walker for such a big accomplishment.

Emotional Walker

The best moment of the night, however, came during Walker’s post-game interview. The franchise’s new top scorer was clearly emotional and wasn’t able to hold back his tears.

Indeed, no one can blame Walker for being emotional. Throughout the trade deadline, he was always mentioned in trade rumors. Now, here he is, cementing his name in the franchise’s record books.

Salute to Kemba Walker, perhaps the most underappreciated talent in the NBA.
