NBA wrap: Joel Embiid shines as Sixers cruise to easy win over Lakers

The Sixers’ new roster is looking dominant as they routed the Lakers on Sunday (Monday, Manila time), 143-120.

Los Angeles didn’t have an answer for Joel Embiid, who totaled 37 points and 14 rebounds on 12-of-16 shooting.

Kyle Kuzma’s 23-point first quarter kept Los Angeles in the game early. He finished with 39 points while LeBron James was one assist shy of a triple-double.

The 76ers surprisingly acquired forward Tobias Harris from the Clippers before the trade deadline and they have now won two straight with him in the lineup. Philadelphia (36-20) will play the Celtics on Tuesday (Wednesday, Manila time).

Los Angeles dropped to 28-28 and will take on the Hawks on Tuesday (Wednesday, Manila time).

Studs of the Night

Luka Doncic recorded 28 points, nine rebounds and six assists to lead the Mavericks to a narrow 102-101 victory over the Trail Blazers.

Marvin Bagley III scored a career-high 32 points as the Kings took down the Suns 117-104.

Josh Richardson scored a career-high 37 points for the Heat in a 120-118 loss to the Warriors.

Duds of the Night

Reggie Bullock scored two points on 1-of-5 shooting in the Lakers’ loss.

Isaiah Briscoe scored two points on 1-of-8 shooting in Orlando’s 124-108 win over Atlanta.


Orlando’s Jonathan Isaac showcased his stingy defending at the rim in Sunday’s win.

Harris attacked the rim and finished with authority over JaVale McGee in the 76ers’ win.

What’s Next?

Trail Blazers (33-22) at Thunder (36-19) 8 p.m. ET —  Portland is just behind Oklahoma City in the Western Conference standings. The Thunder are riding a three-game winning streak and have been fueled by the impressive play of Paul George. The Trail Blazers’ dynamic backcourt will need to show up against one of the NBA’s best defensive teams.
