Luke Walton ‘will definitely finish the season’ as Lakers coach, report says

‘Bucks have to limit Kahwi’ – Leonard helps Raptors control their series with Bucks

Luke Walton’s job does not appear to be in jeopardy.

The Lakers have dropped four of their last five and fell to the lowly Hawks on Tuesday in their final game before the All-Star break. But, the team has had no “internal discussions” about firing Walton, its third-year coach, according to a report from the Los Angeles Times.

One unnamed source told the Times that Walton “will definitely finish the season” with the Lakers.

From the Times’ report:

Lakers owner Jeanie Buss, president of basketball operations Magic Johnson and general manager Rob Pelinka are all on the same page regarding Walton being the coach for the rest of the season, people said.

The Lakers began the season with an 18-11 record but have dealt with multiples injuries over the last few months. Star LeBron James strained his groin in late December and missed 17 games. Lonzo Ball has also been out since Jan. 21 with a sprained ankle.

The Lakers entered play Wednesday in 10th place of the Western Conference with a 28-29 record. They’ll return to action against the Rockets on Feb. 21.
