Ex-Letran star Kevin Alas ‘ironically’ shows up for San Beda in NCAA Finals

Toronto Raptors superstar Kawhi Leonard nails nine 3’s in a row!

It’s ironic that former Letran Knight Kevin Alas was present in the Game 2 of the 92nd NCAA Finals to root for the San Beda Red Lions.

Things got weirder as Alas expressed his happiness when his collegiate nemesis won their 20th title after dumping Arellano, 83-73, at the MOA Arena on Tuesday.

But the support was for no bland reasons.

See, Alas was happy because younger bro Kenneth Louie got an NCAA title in his rookie season with San Beda.

“Masaya ko kapatid ko ‘yan e, I’m very happy for him,” the older Alas told FOX Sports.

“Iba ‘yung feeling ng nag-champion eh pero ako I’m happy for my brother kasi nakapag-champion siya with San Beda eh, which hindi ko na-achieve ‘nung college ako.”

While expressing his support for his brother, Kevin said he can’t help but feel a little jealous as flashbacks of the heartbreaking Season 88 Finals loss to San Beda crossed his mind.

“Siyempre there’s always that feeling na naiinggit ako, sana nakapag-champion ako nung college pero nandyan na ‘yan eh,” he said.

“Nagfa-flashback siyempre kasi ‘yung dying seconds talagang bumabalik ‘yung feelings na masakit na natalo kami [noong 2012] pero that’s life.”

Meanwhile, Alas have high hopes that the Letran Knights will bounce back after failing to defend their crown.

“I hope they’ll be better next year kasi I heard they have a formidable team B. I hope they’ll make it back to the Final Four and Finals next year,” he said. – By John Chester Fajardo
