PBA implements changes for upcoming season

The Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) just announced that they have made some revisions in the league’s playing rules as an initiative to prevent on-court scuffles and speeding up the pace of the games while being aligned to the FIBA rule book, as confirmed in their official website.

PBA Commissioner Willie Marcial, along with deputy commissioner Eric Castro and technical head Bong Pascual, has presented these proposed changes to a four-man Competition Committee who all have expressed their agreement.

The said revisions touched upon on topics such as: Substitutions during a 30-second timeout, Resetting of the shot clock, Snatching of the basketball, and Penalties for technical and flagrant fouls.

The league intends to implement these rule changes by discussing to all teams thoroughly while doing rounds in all team practices in order for these to be adhered to starting this upcoming season.

The four-man Competition Committee for this season is composed of head coaches in San Miguel’s Leo Austria, Blackwater’s Nash Racela, Rain or Shine’s Caloy Garcia, and Phoenix’s Louie Alas.

Since its inception in 2018, key personalities such as Yeng Guiao, Tim Cone, Alex Compton, Norman Black, Ryan Gregorio, and Philippine Star columnist Quinito Henson have served as members of the Committee. Marcial bared that he plans on rotating the members of the Committee every season.
