Import Justin Brownlee and LA Tenorio conspired for Barangay Ginebra’s energetic second-half burst as the Kings rolled past skidding Blackwater, 107-95 in their PBA Governors Cup match on Wednesday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
Brownlee fired 27 points, spiked by three triples, while Tenorio ran rings around his defenders to finish with 23, allowing Ginebra to book its third straight win.
The Kings improved to 4-1 overall, just half a game behind unbeaten Mahindra and TNT, which both carry 4-0 records.
“I worry about this one because this is a real danger game for us,” Ginebra coach Tim Cone said, referring to Blackwater, who beat Star for its lone win so far this conference.
“After coming from a long beak after most of the guys played in the All Star, we lose them for a couple of days in practice.”
However, Ginebra’s solid team effort blew away Cone’s anxiety as evidenced by the Kings’ conference-best 31 assists. Brownlee led Ginebra with 8 assists, while Tenorio and Sol Mercado added 5 apiece.
Ginebra shot a scorching 52 percent from the field overall.
Blackwater dropped to 1-3 overall, in a 5-way logjam at the bottom half of the standings.
