BATANGAS — Parading their youth movement, Blackwater displayed poise in crunchtime to shock crowd favorite Ginebra, 103-100, in the PBA Liga ng Bayan preseason game on Sunday.

After comfortably leading by 10 entering the final canto, the Elite had to survive the Gin Kings’ late game fightback before completing the upset, a positive development for their buildup for the Philippine Cup.

Incoming sophomore Art Dela Cruz led five Elite in double figures with 18 points while journeyman James Forrester showed his potential against the team that drafted him in adding 16 markers.

Rookie big man Mac Belo followed suit with 15 points while Kyle Pascual and Denok Miranda combined for 22.

New boy Paolo Taha scored all of his eight points in the final canto but was still not enough as Ginebra groped for form in their first game since winning the championship in the Governors’ Cup.

Athletic forward Japeth Aguilar topscored for Ginebra with 14 points while spitfire guard Sol Mercado chipped in 12 in a losing effort. – By Jason Mercene
