The PBA has a rich history, and so are some of its legacy teams that have been in the league for quite some time already. And along the years, we have seen some of these iconic teams put out equally iconic jerseys.
So FOX Sports PH came up with 5 throwback PBA jerseys that, whether by looks or by the championships they were associated with, would be more than welcome to be re-issued this season.
Here they are in no particular order:
Alaska Black jerseys (1999)
Minimal, classy, timeless. They may have donned this uniform during their less productive silverware haul, but their jersey just stands the test of time.
They won’t go wrong if they plan to re-issue this design any time this season.
San Miguel White pinstripes jerseys (19995)
Talk about a great design. THIS San Miguel white with red pinstripes is definitely a great one.
Although it came at a trophy-drought season (San Miguel only managed a runner-up finish against Alaska in the Governors’ Cup as its best performance that year), it is without a doubt that their jersey was a champion back then.
Can you reissue this season, SMC?
Talk n Text Bright Yellow jerseys (2014)
This striking jersey is sorely missed. That dominant yellow color with blue trim show a great balance of contrast, loudness and simplicity.
If the TNT management releases this jersey this year, we won’t complain! Why would we? It’s got hell of a colorway!
Barangay Ginebra’s “GINEBRA NA!” jerseys (1996)
Ginebra NA! What more can we say? The brand, the statement, the crimson red color and its bold font embody the Ginebra spirit.
Though they failed to win a trophy this year (with a Governors’ Cup runner-up as their best finish), their jersey that year was still a cool one.
Can we see this revived again soon on the hardcourt, Barangay Ginebra?
If you could do it this season, the better!
Meralco “Reddy Kilowatt” jerseys (1971)
The only jersey that is not part of PBA history but was actually in its predecessor league in the Manila Industrial and Commercial Athletic Association (MICAA), this is a jersey that needs to be unearthed back under the spotlights since Meralco is currently playing in the PBA.
Now these unis might need to undergo slight treatments and updates that would feature modern elements (maybe let go of the shiny shorts and improve the size and placing of the company logo), but if Meralco can pull this homage to their 1971 MICAA championship season successfully, then it’s probably going to be one of the greatest service to die-hard Philippine basketball fans.
Even the moniker itself has that coolness retro vibe if it gets its re-introduction inside the cage – The Meralco Bolts “Reddy Kilowatt” jersey.
We might be compelled to cop one and it’s definitely gonna be ELECTRIC!
Just don’t forget to feature the Reddy Kilowatt mascot embroidered in a subtle manner, maybe at the back part or the shorts.
