With Calvin Abueva heading out the door, the Alaska Aces is undoubtedly Vic Manuel’s team now.
After spending four years together as the nucleus of the franchise, the battle-tested duo will now be donning different uniforms in the upcoming PBA Governor’s Cup.
Shortly after the swap with Phoenix Fuel Masters involving Karl Dehesa and a 2019 first round pick went down; the Best Player of the Conference runner-up took to Instagram to bare his love and admiration for his traded comrade.
“I wish you all the best pare @calvin.abueva.9465. Goodluck to your new team. You will always be my brother no matter what happens,” Manuel, who also teamed up with ‘The Beast’ in the 2014 FIBA 3×3 World Tour, wrote.
“Team lang maiiba sa atin, hindi ang samahang meron tayo. Always remember I’m around lang everytime you need me. Love you pare. God bless”.
After a splendid Commissioner’s Cup where he averaged 24.6 points and 6 rebounds, Manuel is primed to be the Aces’ franchise player for years to come.
Abueva, on the other hand, used to fill the same role for the Aces since being drafted in 2012, but his rocky off-court issues have been a source of hardship for the esteemed franchise. Apart from being suspended for majority of the Commissioner’s Cup, Abueva also faces a 6-game ban from sports governing body FIBA for his involvement in the Gilas-Australia melee.
