BOCAUE — Brian Heruela’s efficient night all came to naught after TNT lost its season opener against the Barangay Ginebra on Sunday night at the Philippine Arena.
The former University of Cebu standout was able to tally 14 points on 64 percent shooting from the field in only 19 minutes of playing time for the KaTropa.
“It would have been a lot great if we won, but it’s our first game, so we just move on and watch the film that we can work on and improve, and next game, hopefully, we can play a lot better,” explained the newly-acquired floor general.
The braided guard was thrust into a much bigger role for Talk ‘N’ Text after being buried in the bench for the most part in San Miguel. He was acquired, along with David Semerad, in exchange for the flamboyant Terrence Romeo in a trade last year.
“It’s great. These guys are great, from the management top to bottom, my coaches, my teammates are great. They’re teaching me and guiding me in whatever way I can help,” Heruela said.
Despite the loss, the spitfire guard was encouraged with what he saw and he feels that their chemistry will get even better as the season rolls along.
“I would have wanted it for us to win the game, but like I said, we move on from that and I’m just thankful,” he said. “I think we were right there. It’s just a little bit more of boxing out. They’re a lot bigger than us. I think just 50-50 balls, we got to grab them and we should be fine.”
Talk ‘N’ Text’s next assignment will be against Phoenix on Saturday, January 19 at the Ynares Center in Antipolo.
