TNT used a strong second half surge to take down San Miguel, 104-93, and make it back-to-back wins in the PBA Philippine Cup Sunday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
Jayson Castro led a furious finishing kick in the fourth quarter and ended with 24 points, 11 assists and four steals for KaTropa, who improved to 2-2 after dropping their first two contests.
Meanwhile, Troy Rosario wasted no time making an impact in his conference debut by putting up 22 points, including six threes, and five rebounds.
The win snapped a nine-game losing streak for TNT, who last beat this stacked Beermen core back in June 2017 during the Commissioner’s Cup.
“There’s nothing special. Ano lang namin is to double effort kami. We played really, really hard. We really, really want this game so bad. Siyempre kailangan din namin i-prove na kaya din namin sila. By working hard as a team on both ends of the floor. Kita naman natin ‘yung depensa, our shots are falling,” head coach Bong Ravena said.
“Nothing to celebrate. Next game na naman ulit.”
San Miguel, on the other hand, was led by Christian Standhardinger’s 24 points and 10 rebounds. Von Pessumal scored 18 of his 23 points in the first half and knocked down six treys for his best game so far, while June Mar Fajardo added 22 points.
The Beermen barely got production from their second unit, which only managed two points all night.
They fell to an even 2-2.
