Active consultant Jermaine Byrd is no longer part of the DLSU Green Archers coaching staff and he is expected to pursue other opportunities around the country, as confirmed via a report from Rappler last Wednesday night.
The former NBA G-League mentor was offered to be the team’s skills coach when Derrick Pumaren took over at the helm, but the former decided to move on to the next phase of his career.
Derrick Pumaren returned to his roots after being named as the head coach last January. Prior to that, he had a three-year stint coaching for the UE Red Warriors before taking over for the CEU Scorpions last year, guiding them to a memorable runner-up finish in the PBA D-League Foundation Cup last July.
Gian Nazario, last year’s head coach for DLSU, is still part of Pumaren’s coaching staff serving as an assistant.
In UAAP Season 82, Jermaine Byrd helped steered La Salle to a 7-7 record in the eliminations. However, they missed out on a Final Four spot.
Prior to joining the Taft-based squad, Byrd has coached in the Tulsa 66ers, Sioux Falls Skyforce, and LA D-fenders in the NBA G-League. He also served as an assistant coach for Team USA in the 2011 Pan-American Games.
