UAAP: Racela, Tamaraws go back to drawing board after another loss vs. Ayo

‘They got championship DNA’ – LeBron on why Lakers lost to Raptors

FEU still cannot solve the Aldin Ayo puzzle in the UAAP.

Per UAAP statistician Pong Ducanes, the Tamaraws have yet to win a single game against an Ayo-coached squad. The school holds a 0-5 win-loss slate against him.

Head coach Olsen Racela could only point to the way the Growling Tigers outworked them in their loss on Wednesday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

“Alam ko naman na all Aldin Ayo-coached teams really work hard. For them, it’s all about putting in effort eh because of their press, the way they attack the basket, the way they get offensive rebounds,” Racela told media after the game.

“Dami namin breakdown on defense, daming penetrations, which resulted to a lot of drop passes, kick out, so yun yung iniiwasan namin talaga pero like I said nung first half, dun kami natalo.”

UST’s first half proved to be enough cushion for them as they erected a 39-32 lead at the half after a 24-15 second quarter.

It also didn’t help that FEU allowed the Tigers to make nine threes while only making three on their end for the whole game.

“Mas marami silang na shoot eh! We lost the game in the first half. We talked about ‘yung hustle points ng UST, offensive rebounds, and we did not follow that nung first half. Ang dami nilang offensive rebounding, they go to the loose balls, kami hindi, and that gave them the confidence eh,” Racela noted.

The Tamaraws also lost the battle on the boards, 49-42.

“Bumalik sa amin yung ginawa namin sa La Salle. Sa La Salle, di pa kami nananalo the past two years three years, ngayon nangyari naman sa amin. That’s the UAAP for you. Kailangan every game, you just have to be ready. Kung hindi, ganito mangyayari,” he said.

Racela and his boys will face a tougher task in their next game when they battle a powerhouse Ateneo squad, which figures in a close match against the UP Fighting Maroons as of press time.

“It’snot about the coaches. Nagkataon lang yun. It’s about preparing the team, we know what we were supposed to do, di lang namin ginawa, so balik kami ngayon sa drawing board and then the difficult thing about this is we have to turn around and then play Ateneo. Pero ganun talaga,” he lamented.
