An explosive third quarter showing propelled Adamson past UST, 96-83, for its ninth win in the UAAP Season 81 men’s basketball tournament on Wednesday at the Smart Araneta Colisuem.
Two back-to-back threes from Renzo Subido and one from Jerie Pingoy capped off a neck-and-neck first half between the two squads, with the Tigers holding a slim 40-39 lead.
The Falcons, behind a combined 16 points from Jerrick Ahanmisi and Jerom Lastimosa, then kicked off the third quarter with 12 unanswered points in the first three minutes to take a 70-58 advantage heading into the final frame.
That 31-point period provided enough cushion for Adamson as they managed to counter every UST attack in the fourth.
Sean Manganti put up an all-around line with 22 points, seven rebounds and four assists, while Simon Camacho added 15 as the team solidified their hold on the second seed to improve to 9-3.
Ahanmisi and Lastimosa, who both scored a measly two points apiece in the first two periods, bucked slow starts to add 13 and 10, respectively.
Renzo Subido led the charge with 21 points built on five threes for the Tigers, whose chances for a shot at the Final Four have been further endangered after falling to 5-7 in the standings.
Marvin Lee chipped in 18, while Cansino rattled off 17 points, 12 rebounds and six assists.
