Liverpool fighter Liam Smith is hoping for a September fight with Saul Alvarez after easily retaining his WBO title with a win over Predrag Radosevic in his hometown.
The undefeated light-middleweight champion cruised to a second-round win over his Montenegrin challenger and has now set his sights on a matchup with the conqueror of Amir Khan.
The home favorite took less than two rounds to claim victory. He pinned his opponent in the corner before catching Radosevic with a left hook to the body which left him on his knees. It was a blow he failed to recover from.
The defeat marked only the second time Radosevic had been stopped in 32 fights, while Smith improved his record to 23 wins and a draw with 13 knockouts.
Smith now believes he is due a crack at Alvarez after being denied the chance earlier this year when the Mexican opted to fight Khan.
WBC middleweight champion Alvarez is rated as one of the best pound-for-pound fighters in the world.
