The WBA have ordered negotiations to commence over a fight between Gennady Golovkin and Danny Jacobs.
Golovkin (36-0, 33 KOs) destroyed British fighter Kell Brook to retain his WBA (super), WBC, IBF and IBO middleweight titles, while Jacobs (32-1, 29 KOs) stopped Sergio Mora in seven rounds to keep hold of his ‘regular’ WBA title.
Speaking to boxingscene.com, managing director of Golvkin’s representatives K2 Promotions, Tom Loeffler said: “I’m going to reach out to them to make that fight as soon as possible. I’m going to reach out to them today.”
There is now a 30-day negotiation period and 120-day window for the fight to take place, as initiated by the WBA.
When asked whether a bout could be staged this autumn, Loeffler replied: “I think so, I think it’s a great fight between Gennady and Danny Jacobs and it gives Jacobs the opportunity, he’s the ‘regular’ WBA title holder and Gennady’s got four of the titles. So I think it will be a fight between the top two middleweights.
“It really depends on how (the negotiation) progresses and how we can make the agreement but it could be November or December for the fight.
“I always have plan A, plan B and plan C for dates and venues.”
