Alistair Overeem is brimming with confidence ahead of his main event bout with Andrei Arlovski at UFC Fight Night 87 in Netherlands on Sunday.
Overeem and Arlovski have continuously traded verbal blows in the lead-up to the fight, but Overeem is certain that he will be victorious.
The 35-year-old is aware that he is fighting a former UFC heavyweight champion, but he believes that he outclasses the Belarusian in all departments.
“I’m the better fighter, I’m better everywhere,” he told reporters. “I’ve got better cardio, I’m better on the ground, I’m better in the clinch, I’ve got better striking, I’ve got kicks, I’ve got all kinds of weapons to get the job done.”
Arlovski meanwhile was less bullish about his chances, but admitted that Overeem does pose a serious threat given that he is on a three-fight winning streak.
“I have to stick to my game plan for sure and be really disciplined when on the ground and I have to be very wary of his kicks,” he said. “He has great boxing skills so I know that I have to be wary.”
The 37-year-old also insisted that there is no relationship between him and Overeem even though they both train at Jackson-Winkeljohn.
“There is no relationship,” he said. “Maybe he is a nice guy and a nice personality but we certainly aren’t going to be friends when we step inside the Octagon on Sunday night that’s for sure.”
