Ronaldo Souza believes that he should be next in line for a middleweight title fight against champion Michael Bisping.
Bisping won the title when he knocked out Luke Rockhold in the first round of their main event bout at UFC 199 on June 4.
Since winning the title, many fighters have called Bisping out, including former champion Chris Weidman, who was supposed to face Rockhold at UFC 199 but had to pull out due to a neck injury.
With Weidman having recently undergone surgery and Rockhold set to be medically suspended for a lengthy period of time, Souza feels that he should be given the opportunity to fight for the title.
Despite what Souza thinks, there has been speculation that the UFC will make him fight another opponent before giving him a title fight as he turned down the opportunity to replace Weidman on short notice at UFC 199.
“I’m not afraid at all, I think I deserve the title shot,” Souza told MMA Fighting. “Even if they give me somebody else to fight before the title shot, I might take it and spank someone. But I know I have the right to be the next one.”
Souza bounced back from a split decision loss to Yoel Romero at UFC 194 in December last year to knock out Vitor Belfort in the first round of their fight at UFC 198 on May 14.
