UFC featherweight Frankie Edgar talks UFC gym Singapore and Holloway vs Poirier 2

Battle-tested veteran Jorge Masvidal will look to avoid losing three consecutive fights for the first time in his career, as he clashes against the dangerous Darren Till in the main event of UFC Fight Night 147 this Sunday (Manila Time).

A hard-nosed, no-non-sense brawler, “Gamebred” will look to be the first fighter to knockout Till.

Record

Masvidal has been fighting in MMA professionally since 2003 and has compiled an impressive 32-13 record.

A fan-favourite for his willingness to engage in all-out wars, Masvidal has 15 wins by way of KOs and submissions.

Instagram

Like most UFC fighters, Masvidal has also maximized social media to get closer to his growing fanbase. He usually posts training videos and motivational phrases for his 172,00 followers on Instagram.

Backyard fighting

Masivadal loves fighting—may it be inside or outside the octagon. Prior to joining the UFC, the 34-year-old fighter has also engaged in bare-knuckle backyard brawls. Just like deceased MMA fighter Kimbo Slice, Jorge’s unsanctioned fights are all over YouTube.

Boxing skills

Masvidal’s ground game is legit, but his hands remain his bread-and-butter.  Although his heart belongs to MMA, Masvidal couldn’t help but try his hand on boxing and competed in his first and last boxing match in June 2005. He edged out Joseph Benjamin (1-11-2) via majority decision in an event in Miami, Florida. He has not returned to the boxing ring ever since.

UFC fights

As entertaining as he is, Masvidal has had an up-and-down career in the UFC so far. “Gamebred” tried his luck at Lightweight, but found the weight cut too brutal to be sustainable in the long run. He submitted grappling wizard Michael Chiesa and knocked out  KO artist Cezar Ferreira.

A three-fight winning streak against respectable opponents Ross Pearson, Jake Ellenberger, and Donald Cerrone put his name to title contention, but his recent setbacks against Demian Maia and Stephen Thompson once again halted his momentum.
