After last conference’s heartbreak, the F2 Logistics Cargo Movers gets payback as they emerged victorious over their rivals Petron Blaze Spikers in Game 2 to take the crown in the 2018 Chooks-to-Go Philippine Superliga (PSL) Invitationals Cup.
The Cargo Movers defeated the Blaze Spikers in four sets, 25-18, 23-25, 25-23, 25-18, to win the best-of-three championship series and take their third championship in the league.
Unlike their Game 1 performance, the Cargo Movers dominated early, taking the first set with ease. However, the Blaze Spikers caught fire in the following set as the duo of Bernadeth Pons and Cherry Rondina led the onslaught, the latter scoring the last five points for a come-from-behind win.
The third set became hotly contested with Petron rallying from behind to narrow the lead, 23-24, but Aby Maraño took over and ended the set. The Blaze Spikers eventually lost steam in the fourth set with F2 Logistics riding the momentum to end the championship series.
It was a balanced effort for the Cargo Movers as four players registered double digits, with Ara Galang and Aby Maraño leading their team with 15 points each.
While Rondina and Pons led Petron with 20 and 13 points, respectively, their efforts weren’t enough to achieve what could have been PSL’s first Grand Slam.
This is the Cargo Movers’ third title under Coach Ramil de Jesus, who missed the Grand Prix Finals series last May due to his commitment with the De La Salle Lady Spikers in the UAAP.
This gold medal match marks F2 Logistics and Petron’s fourth consecutive meet-up in the championship. With the win, the Cargo Movers put their longstanding Finals face-off with the Blaze Spikers on even terms with two championships apiece in the rivalry series.
