Sunday’s Eredivisie wrap

Ajax Amsterdam claimed top spot in the Eredivisie after recording a 2-0 victory over PSV Eindhoven at Philips Stadion in Eindhoven on Sunday.

Frank de Boer’s side made a perfect start to the encounter as Arkadiusz Milik headed home from Joël Veltman’s cross in the second minute.

Despite creating a whole host of good opportunities, PSV were unable to find a way past Jasper Cillessen in the Ajax goal, and were ultimately made to pay for their wastefulness as Anwar El Ghazi slotted home in the 76th minute to double Ajax’s advantage, Milik providing the assist.

Earlier in the day, FC Twente and AZ Alkmaar were forced to settle for a share of the spoils as the match finished in a 2-2 draw and with both teams reduced to ten men.

Following a goalless first period, AZ claimed the lead through Vincent Janssen’s 51st-minute goal before Twente’s Zakaria El Azzouzi was shown a straight red card on the hour mark.

AZ’s numerical advantage didn’t last long, though, as Stijn Wuytens also received his marching orders four minutes later after collecting a second yellow card.

The hosts eventually drew level in the 75th minute through Stefan Thesker only for Thom Haye to fire AZ back in front just two minutes later. However, Thesker wasn’t done yet, popping up again at the death to net a dramatic equaliser.

At Euroborg, meanwhile, Vitesse returned to winning ways as they piled more misery on an out-of-sorts Groningen after clinching a 3-0 win.

Dominic Solanke opened the visitors’ account in the 73rd minute before Valeri Qazaishvili added his name to the scoresheet five minutes later. And the result was put beyond any doubt when Solanke notched his second of the afternoon with five minutes remaining in the clash.

ADO Den Haag stretched their unbeaten run in Eredivisie to three matches as a late strike from Dion Malone secured a 1-0 victory over NEC Nijmegen at Kyocera Stadion.
