Balestier Khalsa FC trounced New Radiant SC 3-0 in Group F of the AFC Cup on Wednesday at the Jalan Besar Stadium in Singapore.
Goals for Zulkiffli Hassim, Jamil Ali and Fadhil Noh in an impressive display of total football were more than enough to secure Balestier Khalsa a convincing 3-0 home triumph.
While the result means little to New Radiant, who were already out of the competition prior to kick-off, it sees Balestier Khalsa remain in contention to progress to the knock-out stages.
Group F is now topped by Kitchee who have 10 points. In second spot are Kaya FC who have nine points. Balestier Khalsa are in third with seven points and a mathematical chance of finishing in the top two. New Radiant are at the foot of the table with just two points.
After starting the game well Balestier Khalsa opened the scoring midway through the first half when Emir Lotinac’s shot from outside the box was parried by Fairooz Ahmed. The loose ball fell to Zulkiffli who buried it into the back of the net.
10 minutes later and Zulkiffli was involved again, this time as provider. He passed the ball across the face of the goal for Jamil who made no mistake with an easy finish to double the lead at half-time.
The result was put beyond doubt after 61 minutes as the fragile New Radiant defence failed to clear Zaiful Nizam’s long goal kick. Noh took advantage of the confusion to pounce on the stray ball on the edge of the box and smash home.
Balestier Khalsa coach Marko Kraljevic was full of praise for his sides polished performance.
“Today’s showing was excellent and this was the best game I have seen from them this season,” he said after the game.
While New Radiant coach Iordan Stoykov was obviously less impressed.
“We had lost hope before the game, so we were mentally down,” he explained.
“Balestier were more committed and played much better than us.”
