FC Bayern München defender Medhi Benatia says he is focused on finishing the campaign well, but is happy to leave the club at the end of the season if he is no longer needed.
Speculation surrounding Benatia’s future began this week with Borussia Dortmund captain Mats Hummels revelation of his intention to join the Bavarians in the off-season.
Hummels is rated as one of the top central defenders in Germany and his arrival, if a transfer materialises, would undoubtedly push Benatia down the pecking order.
However, far from being bitter about the situation, the Morocco international admits Hummels would be a fine acquisition for Bayern and says he will leave the club if his services are no longer required.
“Hummels? He is a great player and would be welcomed here,” he told Sky Sport Italia. “In my case, if I have to leave Bayern at the end of this season, then I will leave.
“I will not do it like the managerial staff, who spoke about transfer rumours before an important game like the semi-finals of the Champions league.
“I am only thinking on finishing the season well and I want to live great emotions. I am talking about the Champions League, the Bundesliga title and the German Cup. In a player’s career, it is important to live these moments,” he concluded.
