Ranieri: We capped off unbelievable season

Funny Moments – Matchday 34

Claudio Ranieri described his maiden title triumph as “unbelievable” after Leicester City lifted the Premier League trophy in the wake of their 3-1 win over Everton on Saturday night.

On an emotional day, which saw Ranieri’s close friend, Andrea Bocelli, perform for the home fans before kick-off at the King Power Stadium, the Foxes put on a crowning performance as they swept aside the Toffees.

Jamie Vardy broke the deadlock after just five minutes to get the party started and capped off the win from the penalty spot in the second half – and managed to miss another spot-kick – with Andy King having doubled the hosts’ lead on 33 minutes.

Ranieri lifted the coveted trophy along with captain Wes Morgan at the presentation, and the Italian admitted it was a very special moment in his career.

“Not bad!” the 64-year-old joked afterwards. “It’s fantastic. The people are unbelievable. Thank you to them because they pushed us all season. I was concentrated to be calm but of course inside I am very happy. It’s unbelievable.

“I think it was an amazing moment for me because I’m not the youngest and there is another test now. You are the champion of the Premier League and it’s something special for everybody.

“I’ve lost the finals in England, Spain and Italy but for me to win this is something special. In my career I always thought sooner or later I’d win a title. This is a crazy season and we had fantastic consistency all season.

“I believe at the top it’s important to have a very good owner after the players and manager. When I saw them in Austria [during pre-season] I saw a very good dressing room. They work so hard and they are friends and I tried to blend them.”
