Liverpool eye Southampton’s Mane

Chelsea youth must ‘show what they can do’ says Lampard

Liverpool have set their sights on Southampton striker Sadio Mane, with reports suggesting an offer of £30m is on the table.

Manager Jurgen Klopp is looking to bolster his ranks up front, and Mane has been identified as a likely target.

As talks continue, the price looks set to be a sticking point, with the Saints reportedly wanting up to £40m for the 24-year-old striker, who scored 11 goals in 37 Premier League games last season. That’s £10m more than the Reds are currently offering.

Klopp is said to have been impressed by Mane’s performance when Southampton came from 2-0 down to beat Liverpool 3-2 at St Mary’s back in March.

Mane scored two of their three goals on that occasion, and would prove a welcome addition in the Liverpool ranks alongside Daniel Sturridge and Divock Origi up front.

It is believed that the Reds will look to recoup the cost of Mane by selling striker Christian Benteke, who has failed to impress since his £32m switch from Aston Villa.

If the deal goes through, Mane would be Southampton’s second high profile exit in the off-season, following Tottenham’s acquisition of midfielder Victor Wanyama on Thursday.
