Bale praises the Red Wall

Wales forward Gareth Bale has thanked their loyal fans for all of their support after the Dragons were knocked out of Euro 2016 by Portugal on Wednesday evening.

The Dragons were the surprise package of the tournament in France, defying all odds by reaching the last four of the competition but their 2-0 loss against Portugal ended their fairytale abruptly.

Bale impressed during their group stage exploits but their teamwork and work ethic in the knock-out phase is what captured the hearts of football fans around the world.

"We want to thank the fans for all the support we have had, they have been absolutely incredible," he told reporters after the game. "I felt we deserved better.

"We wish we could have done it for them and we'd like to thank all the fans at home and all the ones who have traveled out and behaved themselves.

While the Real Madrid star admitted he was heartbroken by their exit, he believes Wales have a bright future ahead of them.

"It is difficult to analyse now as we are obviously massively disappointed," he said.

"We tried our hardest to get back in the game, we fought until the last second and we are sorry we couldn't get to the final, but we gave it everything.

"It's been an amazing journey. We look forward to the future."
