Karanka tips Negredo to shine

‘It’s not a record we’re proud of’ – Howe on Bournemouth losing run to Man City

Middlesbrough manager Aitor Karanka has backed compatriot Alvaro Negredo to rediscover his best form following his return to the Premier League.

The robust left-footed forward lost his goal-scoring touch after leaving Manchester City to return to La Liga – finding the net only 18 times in the past two seasons at Valencia.

Now, Karanka feels his fellow Spaniard will be in the right environment to find his form with a season-long loan at Boro.

"He is a really good player and if he recovers his best he will be a really important player for us," Karanka told the club's official website.

"Another reason I wanted to sign him is because he has played in this country and he knows the league.

"I'm pleased and he's pleased because he wants to play his best and he knows that England and this club is the best place to recover his self."

Negredo scored 23 goals in 48 games in his only season at the Citizens in the 2013/14 season following a £16.4 million transfer from Sevilla.
