Barcelona and Borussia Dortmund are in talks to sign Fiorentina striker Mario Gomez, according to a Besiktas spokesperson.
The Germany international spent last season on loan with Besiktas in Turkey where he scored 28 goals in 41 matches.
Besiktas were hopeful of signing Gomez on a permanent deal but the 31-year-old is reportedly eager to play in another country following the recent political unrest in Turkey.
The news of Barcelona's interest in signing the striker appears to come as something of a surprise – the highly mobile front three of Neymar, Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez does not seem to leave room for a more traditional number nine like Gomez.
However, the player could be utilised as something of a 'plan-B' and his goal record also stands out. The striker was prolific for Bayern Munich in the Bundesliga and this appears the reason why Dortmund are interested as well.
Besiktas spokesperson Metin Albayrak expressed hope of signing Gomez permanently amidst the interest shown by Barcelona and Dortmund. He told the Dogan News Agency: "We're monitoring his situation closely but we know that he is in serious talks with Barcelona and Dortmund. Obviously he is difficult for us."
