Moritz Leitner arrived in the Italian capital on Tuesday to undergo a medical with Lazio ahead of his proposed switch from Borussia Dortmund.
The 23-year-old midfielder is set to leave Germany after failing to establish himself in the first team at Signal Iduna Park since Thomas Tuchel replaced Jurgen Klopp as head coach last season.
Biancocelesti boss Simone Inzaghi is looking to bolster his midfield options following the departure of Ogenyi Onazi to Trabzonspor recently, and Leitner has been identified as his replacement.
The former Germany youth international touched down in Rome before heading straight to the Serie A club's facilities in Paideia for his medical tests.
"I'm happy to be here, I expected to come,” Leitner told Lalaziosiamonoi at the airport. "It's the right choice. The derby? I know everything about it."
The 1860 Munich youth product made just 66 appearances for Dortmund in all competitions since his arrival from Die Lowen in 2011.
