Feyenoord can count themselves slightly fortunate to have left the Polman Stadion with three points after a narrow 1-0 win over an impressive Heracles side on Sunday.
Despite having less possession throughout the match and creating less chances, Karim El Ahmadi’s 24th minute strike was enough to separate the teams and hand Feyenoord victory.
The home side were ultimately made to pay for their profligacy as they were unable to hit the target a single time, despite having 10 shots in the match.
Elsewhere, FC Twente scored deep into injury time to secure a dramatic 4-3 win over Groningen at the Euroborg stadium.
A first half hattrick from Enes Unal (23′, 36′, 39′) left the visitors looking like they were cruising to an easy victory, but they were made to pay for taking their foot off the gas.
Mimoun Mahi pulled one back in the 52nd minute before goals from Danny Hoesen (52′) and Oussama Idrissi (84′) looked to have earned the home side an unlikely draw.
However, Twente would have the final say though Jari Oosterwijk, who scored the winner in the second minute of added time to hand the visitors the points.
Loris Brogno’s 85th minute penalty was enough to give Sparta Rotterdam a 1-0 win over G.A. Eagles at Sparta Stadion Het Kasteel, while AZ Alkmaar also left it late with Alireza Jahanbakhsh’s 84th minute strike securing a 2-1 after Patrick Joosten’s strike in the 53rd minute had cancelled out Markus HFeyeenriksen’s 24th minute opener.
